Start the mysql in safe mode and do the update query.
/etc/init.d/mysql stop;
mysqld --skip-grant-tables --skip-networking &;
mysql mysql -u root;
UPDATE user SET password=PASSWORD('root321') WHERE user="root";
/etc/init.d/mysql restart;
